HeartWorks pathology models for both TTE and TEE imaging have been created to facilitate the echocardiographic evaluation of patients with structural and hemodynamic disturbances of the heart and lungs.

This module includes:

  • Global left ventricular dysfunction
  • Left ventricular anterior wall motion abnormality
  • Hypovolemia
Hypovolemia
Accompanying notes on the pathology models highlight the echocardiographic features displayed. The superb interactive functionality of the HeartWorks software is retained, including measurement capability.
HeartWorks Pathology Models
Global left ventricular dysfunction

This pathological heart model reproduces the 2D and Doppler features of left ventricular failure with impaired systolic and diastolic function, a dilated left ventricle, and mild central mitral regurgitation.

Global LV dysf
Left ventricular anterior wall motion abnormality

An accurate representation of left ventricular anterior wall hypokinesia due to compromised left anterior descending artery flow. Students can understand how to characterize regional wall motion abnormalities and acquire the relevant echocardiographic imaging planes.

LV Anterior Wall Motion
Hypovolemia

Tachycardia, reduced cavity dimensions and increased ejection fraction, typical of hypovolemia, are carefully reproduced with characteristic HeartWorks attention to detail. The animation features accurate timing of the cardiac cycle with incorporation of shortening of the diastolic period.

Darent Valley Hospital Cardiac Arrest Ultrasound Course

Exploring the use of Ultrasound in ALS Training
Darent Valley Hospital has piloted the first Cardiac Arrest Ultrasound Course in the UK. The course, which is intended as an adjunct to current Advanced Life Support (ALS) training, has been designed to determine when and how ultrasound should be employed within current ALS guidelines and protocols in treating the cardiac arrest patient. Organised and facilitated by Mr. Rob Morrison, Resuscitation Officer at Darent Valley Hospital, attendees comprised critical care nurses and advanced paramedics from London Ambulance Service (LAS).
