20 December 2009

MedaPhor was successful in securing 190 thousand pounds to complete the development of its transvaginal ultrasound simulator, which is due for launch early in 2010. FusionIP and Finance Wales each contributed 75K pounds and the remainder was secured from private investors. A spokesperson for the company said: "This is great news and will see the simulator project on track for launch by the end of the first quarter of 2010". The virtual reality simulator has many novel and exciting features and will radically transform ultrasound training as key skills will be learnt and perfected in the "skills lab environment" before a trainee begins to scan patients. Mr Nazar Amso, Medical Director at the company said: "The training simulator is a very exciting developemnt. It will address many of the current training constraints and will help to speed up the learning period. We will see more and better trained sonography practitioners in the clinical setting. This will ultimately lead to improved patient care and safety. The same concept will be extended to other fields such as obstetric, general medical and breast ultrasound".
